How to Make a Perfect Cup of Coffee

Want to brew the perfect cup of coffee?

Here are 3 simple tips that will make a difference in every single cup you drink.

Tip #1 Clean Coffee Pot
A clean pot is essential and can make a world of difference in the taste of your coffee. Old oils from previous batches of coffee and soap residue left on the pot makes coffee taste bad.
Baking soda and water work well for cleaning coffee mugs and pots. Rinse your coffee pot extra good so no residue is left behind.

Tip #2 Clean Filtered Water
The water you use for your coffee will affect the taste more than anything. Coffee is 99% water so use clean filtered or bottled water free from chlorine and other minerals that will affect the taste of your coffee.
Using stainless steel or gold mesh filters instead of paper filters will also make your coffee taste better. Paper filters release dyes, chlorine and bleach that affect taste. If you insist on using paper filters buy the unbleached, brown paper filters.

Tip #3 Use Fresh, Quality Coffee
Quality coffee costs more but will consistently produce better tasting coffee.
For the best results use quality, whole bean coffee and grind the coffee beans just prior to use. You might think it’s an inconvenience compared to ground coffee, but once you taste the difference you’ll never go back.
If you still want to use ground coffee, make sure you use a good, drip grind coffee.
Use 2 level tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water. This can be adjusted for individual taste preference. Make sure to spread the grounds evenly in the coffee filter so full brewing is achieved.
Drink your fresh coffee right away for the best flavor. Coffee will break down quickly if left on a heat source. Coffee should never be reheated or microwaved.
A clean, preheated air pot or stainless steel Thermos will keep coffee hot for about an hour without hurting the flavor.
If you follow these 3 simple tips, every cup you brew will be perfect coffee.

  15. Gunnar, I agree with all above clean pot filtered Water metal filter or brown unbleached type .
But a for the two level tables spoons per 6 once Cup well as per my Norwegian Grandmother She taught me to use Three heaping Tablespoons Of Dark Roast per 6 once water. That is how I like it also
since my Grandmother and I are from North Dakota we also like to call it our Cowboy Coffee. I thank you for the emails Marc

  16. My other coffee tip, especially if French pressing.. Do not over heat the water! I know it looks nice but you really don’t need your water to be 212+ degrees for a good cup of coffee! Can easily burn your cofewe(and tongue)

  17. Thanks for the tips. Already knew most of them, but reminders are always good. I prefer grinding beans myself… But I have almost no counter space. The coffeemaker and Toaster take up almost 1/2 my counter as it is. Been thinking of getting a French Press for my Howl in the Night, but our budget squeaks loudly on a regular basis, and a good (stainless steel) press is a bit on the pricey side. I really would like to get a water filter but it would almost have to be an in-line filter on the kitchen sink, and that’s expensive. I passionately dislike bottled water. Won’t use it/drink it unless I have no choice. Thanks for the delicious coffee, in spite of all the deficiencies and handicaps to getting a great cup of coffee here at home, my Howl in the Night tastes absolutely fantastic!

  18. Thanks for the coffee tips. Please keep them coming they are good to know for future reference. This hands down is great coffee. I LOVE Sasquatch coffee. It is so inviting the aroma even permeates through the bags before you open them. I am so glad I found it online by accident.I share with all of my family and friends.

  19. Had no idea to use baking soda to clean the coffee maker and cups. Thanks for the idea, and thank you for the opportunity to win a sasquatch coffee!

  20. These are great tips! We also clean our coffee pot by brewing water/vinegar through about once a month because of the calcium buildup. I wonder if we switched to using filtered water if this would fox the need to do this so often!! Going to try it out! We love Sasquatch Coffee!!!

  21. I am on a continuous quest for the “perfect” cup of coffee. My daughter gave me a French press and a grinder for Christmas last year so I haven’t been using my electric coffee maker much lately but I think it’s time to order some more Sasquatch coffee, dig the coffee maker out and put to use some of the helpful tips from the article!! Thanks 😊

  22. I read your tips this morning while enjoying a cup of my favorite Howl in the Night.Love the hand written messages you add to my orders and have been a loyal drinker of your wonderful coffee for many years now. Thanks for the great product and service.

  23. Nice tips. Since I discovered good coffee such as Sasquatch makes I have enjoyed my coffee black and therefore don’t see a need to use soap to clean out my cup. In fact I hide my cup to keep my wife from washing it for me. Thanks a lot Honey urrrgh!!! I might be willing to try the baking soda idea. Thanks

  24. Thank you, Sasquatch, for the coffee prep tips! 🙂 Like Wendy, I often use a French Press, which gives me a more intense result initially. I look forward to enjoying your coffee 😀! I live in Lincoln, NE, and haven’t yet had the opportunity!

  25. Thank you for the emails and keeping up with everyone. I’m just happy to have coffee named after my favorite guy. heheh Keep up the good work guys.

  26. Every one I have tried has been especially good. If you are looking for a gift for a coffee lover, this is the place!

  27. I rarely leave comments on anything, but for a chance to win a sample of the Sasquatch coffee everyone is drooling over?! I jumped at the chance! The baking soda tip intrigued me as I’ve always been told to run vinegar through and then of course run an extra without anything to make sure to rinse the vinegar through. But I’ll actually try this tomorrow! Thanks!
